(NAEP) National Assessment of Educational Progress

In this assignment were asked to look at the (NAEP) National Assessment of Educational Progress data and compare other states to West Viriginia to see where we were, and if we were on average on below average. Here this is were the data can be found and what can be measured. Once I put in my Gender, Math, and year, I put the data into a excel document. I noticed that their were 5 states below WV. It seemed that we were below average. After taking the average on the states below 260.46. The overall average of students was 282.5.
The next step to the assignment asked to look and see if the boys were smarter than the girls. By looking at the data, I found there was not a significant amount from the results.

By looking at the results and dealing with the activity , I believe this assignment reflects Standard 1 and 5.

Research Action Report

Research Report was hard at times until I read other post on the discussion board and by reading others post, I finally figured out what I was doing. At times, it seems that all the assignments are running together and I'm making the assignment harder than I need to. I sometimes overlook and over think things through.
I took the data and made 2 tables which explains by 2 questions that I chose for my report. The discussion post and average age for teaching and non- teaching students was the main focus of my report. After looking at the results from the data, my questions were answered.

Data ToolPack Research overview

I had a hard time finding the tool menu when trying to add the toolpack to Excel. After looking and researching Excel I finally figured out how to add the toolpack menu. I clicked on file and scrolled down to the option, the menu came up and Add-In was one that was offered. After clicking on Add-In, I had to click on the inactive application menu to make the toolpack active.

This assignment reflects Standard 5 because because of the Professional Growth of using Excel to keep record of grades and other data inside the classroom. Excel has different ways to calculate different types of material and by keeping grades, or making a list of students of what they need or what they might be doing, is a great learning and professional growth process.

Millennial

This website asks you certain questions because how you react to certain situations and how you value different outcomes. I found the results to be close to who I am and how I value life. It's funny how 67 questions can come close to your personality.
This assignment reflects Standard 2, the questions that are being asked would be a great tool to use ons students and parent volunteer survey. I would find it interesting to find out the results of the many different personalities that are in this world.

Audacity

Here

This assignment would be good for a high school assignment, but teachers would have to go over each stpe because the process of getting this assignment submitted was confusing. Technology can be tricky, and by that, I mean that every computer is different. For some odd reason, I had a hard time when downloading LAME encoder.

The ISTE NETS standards that would be best for this assignments are standards 1 and 5. Standard 1 is inspiring and helpes students creativity and learning. Standard 5 shows that we are engaging professional development. An example of Standards 1 from this assignment shows modeling and showing creative thinking.

Voicethread

After reviewing both videos,Video 1 and Video 2 I was intrigued by Ken Robison’s ideas about creativity inside the classroom. In primary school, children work with crafts and are able to use their creativity inside the classroom; however, when they get older they seem to not be able to use their imagination. Robinson argues that this is because they are expected to perform a certain way at school. If this is the case, then he argues that students find school boring because their imaginations are put on hold.

I can relate to the article because I’ve seen in it in my own students. My deaf students always seem so tired inside the classroom. They are expected to pay extra attention because of the extra effort it takes to relay material to them. The constant focus must take a toll on their concentration. It also leaves less time for creative tasks like arts and crafts.

I know that I would like to be able to offer them more activities that required hands-on approaches, but I also know that what the state and county are requiring of teachers like me. These organizations are asking teachers to teach material in a fast manner because there are so many issues and subjects to cover. Not only are teachers required to teach multiple subjects, but they also are constantly being assessed. Some of these assessments can be intimidating. I have notice that my deaf students have a hard time finishing a reading comprehension story because they are scared of having the incorrect answer.

On the other end of the spectrum, students can make school boring themselves. Lack of effort or attempts at attention, will not lead to retention. Students who sleep are hurting themselves and teachers who let them are aiding them. Does the teacher not care, or they are asleep themselves? This does not mean that every sleeping student or every hyper student can’t succeed. Some students can’t help themselves. I have seen students that have been diagnosed with ADHD that truly couldn’t; however, I’ve also seen a few students who were so medicated that they couldn’t use their imagination if they wanted to. I also know that many of our students have a tough home life and lack of discipline, but I think we have to get passed that crutch.

In conclusion, students may not be allowed use creativity, but I teach at a school where teachers are creative. I know that I want the students to use their creativity and I feel that most of my colleges feel the same way. That does not mean that everyone wants or knows how to implement this. I have been a substitute teacher and have seen how different classrooms in which the students were afraid to voice their opinion. How can a student learn and use their creativity if they are afraid of getting the answers wrong? Worse yet, how students can become creative thinkers if they are afraid of bucking the “structured” academic environment.

Benderconverter

I have to admitt, this assignment was hard for me. Computers work one day don't the next, it's like they have a mind of their own. It took me several days to figure out to get the video downloaded from YouTube in a file. I know that it shouldn't have been hard, but for some reason the I wasn't getting it together. Everytimei would try to convert my video to the benderconverter, it would say that the file format is not supported. Here

After reviewing the assignment;Standard 5 Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership would best fit this assignment.
Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional
community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. Teachers should:

Jing2

I love the Jing 2 video recorder. It is a grest tool to use for students and for parents when teaching a unit. My video focuses on third grade and the reading unit that they are working on this week.
I have used this website several time with my students and it seeme to be helpful when going over spelling words and Voc. words for the unit story. This website is great for parents to have at home and by showing the video, the parents would have a better understanding of how to help his or her child. When working with deaf students, they learn by sight and by showing them step by step directions, would help them stay on task at home and at school.

Jing Screencast focueses on the iNETS Standards that teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers can demonstrate technology systems and the new technologies and situations. Teachers also collaborate with students, peers, parents, and the community is using digital tools and resources to support student success.

Experience with different web browsers

A browser add on is a toolbar or browser extension that can help you view or search content. Am example of a browser add on would be google toolbar. I have used FVD suite plug-in in another course. I have found add ons to be a pain because it seems to slow down my computer. I have had to install several add ons twice because the first application didn't work. I've also had to manage my add ons to increase my browser speed. The NETS A standard closely match this activity because they want to ensure equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources to meet the needs of all learners.

Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Kandi Campbell, and I was born and raised in Boone County, WV; however, I currently live in Buckhannon, WV. I am a 2009 graduate of West Virginia State University and my teaching experience began with Barbour County Schools in 2009. I served as a Long –Term Substitute Teacher last year. This year, I work at Belington Elementary School with the job title of Hearing Impaired/ Multi-Categorical Special Education Teacher.
I expect to finish my degree in two years. After I graduate, I plan to take a position in a county that will hire me. My experiences with research have mostly been assignments and tasks throughout my school years; however, I have researched many topics related to the teaching profession.
I am hoping to gain information about the history of the education profession and how to better research things by taking this course. It is my hope that this knowledge will better prepare me for my upcoming career in teaching.
The unique thing that I would like to share with the class is something that happened to me this year. On the first day of school, I was introduced to students that were deaf and was told that they needed a teacher to help them. Coming into this position, I didn’t know sign language, but as the year went on I had to step up. In effect, they helped teach me sign language while I taught them.
